Hi Travel Buddies,
We stayed at Tir Na Nog at Gili Trawangan for 3 nights in our recent vacation.
According to Wikipedia, Tir na nog means “Land of the Young” in an Old Irish mythology, a place where sickness and death is non-existence, a place of eternal youth and beauty.
Tir Na Nog is located among the many accomodations found along the main strip in Gili Trawangan. Why did we choose Tir Na Nog?
In terms of price, we paid U$64 per room per night including tax. It is not the cheapest. You can find other cheaper accomodation along the main strip. However, we read the reviews from www.tripadvisor.co.uk that some of the accomodations have party nights till wee hours. The rooms in Tir Na Nog are located away from the pubs and we hardly heard any noise behind closed door.
Our room, including the bathroom and patio was very spacious. There was no TV in the room, thanks to the free wifi, we can still connect to internet and know what’s happening beyond the islands. 😛
The breakfast area is just beside the main strip and you can get a good view of the beach and sea. Breakfast was good but not much variety, so you may get a bit bored with having almost the same kind of breakfast everyday if you stay many nights. We merely varied the way we want our eggs to be done, fried eggs, scrambed eggs or sunny side up for the 3 days. 😛
While we did get some mosquito bites when we checked into our room initially, problem was resolved soon after the staff passed us a can of baygon spray. We also experienced 2 times of power trip in the room but power resumed within 5 minutes. We know that the mosquito and power problems are quite common on the islands, so we are not so particularly disturbed.
We also found the staff really friendly and helpful to attend our questions and needs like extra towels. We were not asked to pay anything until the last day we checked out. Booking with them was so easy as we only emailed them our request and they did not require any deposit or credit card number to hold our reservation. We love the trust they placed on guests and gave us the flexibility to change our travel plans if necessary.
If you are looking for a quiet and yet convenient place to stay in Gili Trawangan, you can trust that Tir Na Nog is the right place. We are glad that we had a chance to stay with Tir Na Nog in Gili Trawangan, being the smallest island in the world with a Irish bar. 🙂
