Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival 2012 Entrance Fees and Activities

By

Hi Travel Buddies,

The 28th Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival is going to commence on 5 January 2012, this Thursday.  We are particularly excited this year because we are going to be there very soon, just 2 weeks more after the grand opening!

It is about time that we should finalise our itinerary and budget for our travel expenses now.  If you are also going to Harbin this winter, you are lucky because we are going to share with you what we have researched on the entrance fees, activities and costs.

It took us a while to find out that the highlights of the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival showcases and masterpieces are mainly found in three key places of interests below.  It helps if you remember these places in Chinese when you travel in Harbin.

1) Sun Island Park – Snow Sculpture Art Expo 太阳岛雪雕艺术博览会

The world’s largest indoor ice and snow art museum where the International Snow Sculpture Art Expo is held.

Opening Hours: 08:30-19:00
CNY240
CNY120 for children between 1.2-1.4 meters
Free of charge for children under 1.2 meters

2) Harbin Ice and Snow World 哈尔滨冰雪大世界

A “must see” in Harbin Ice and Snow Festival.  Every year, there will be a different theme.  The 2012 theme for the 13th Ice and Snow World is “Tracks in the snowy forest” and “Comic World” (林海雪原、动漫天地), which combines the international comic festival and the beautiful northern scenary.  There will be seven sections, which are ceremony square, ice pavilion and tower, legend of castle, tracks in the snowy forest, dreaming lake, comic world and happy land.

Opening Hours: 13:30-21:00
CNY300; CNY330 (January 1-3, January 22-28, February 6)
CNY160 for children between 1.2-1.4 meters
Free of charge for children under 1.2 meters

Opening Hours: 09:30-13:30
CNY100/CNY60 for children

Noted that the entrance fees in the morning is much cheaper but we guess most visitors will choose to visit later in the day so that they get to view the magnificent colourful architectures when they are lighted at night.

3) Zhaolin Park – Ice Lantern Garden Party 冰灯艺术游园会

Again, we read that the entrance fee is half price for the day ticket.  This place seems to be a smaller scale than the Harbin Ice and Snow World above and we can probably see more chinese classic-style ice lanterns as this is the theme for this year as compared to Ice and Snow World.  We will tell you the difference when we are there! 😛

Opening Hours: 09:00-21:00 during the Ice and Snow Festival
05:00 – 18:30
CNY 200 (night ticket)
Usually half the price for day ticket and children between 1.2-1.4 meters

Free of charge for children under 1.2 meters

We also found a good summary of activities during the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival from Travel China Guide below.  If you are planning a ski holiday at Yabuli Ski Resort, click here to read our old post.  Looking at the many interesting activities in Harbin like winter swimming and winter fishing during this period,  we are already feeling that 5 nights for us may not be enough to see all.

Opening Ceremony: January 5, 2012 (opening ceremonies, fire balloon, cocktail party, fireworks celebration)
