Hi Travel Buddies,

The 75km new highway to Desaru opens last Friday.  The Senai-Desaru Expressway will reduce the driving time from the Johor side of Second Link to Desaru by half.

This is indeed good news to Singaporeans who love to cross the causeway to Desaru for a short holiday getaway.  They can now enter Johor using the Second Link and head towards Senai Airport before entering the highway.

The highway is free to use for one month, with tolls start from July 10. So parents who are cracking their heads where to bring your kids out during this June school holidays, Desaru is a good choice. :)

Seafood Meals at Sungai Rengit

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Hi Travel Buddies,

During our road trip to Desaru, we stopped by Sungei Rengit town for a yummy lunch at Good Luck Seafood Restaurant,  86 Jalan Telok Ramunia, Sungai Rengit.  Thumbs up for its baby lobsters! :P

Sungei Rengit is about an hour and a half from Johor Bahru and is well known for fresh seafood.

At night, we drove back to the town for another hearty dinner.  We decided to try another popular restaurant, also recommended by Channel U, Jade Garden Seafood Corner, 54, Jalan Kerisi, Sungai Rengit.  This time, we ordered 2 chili crabs and 2 salted egg cream crabs.  We love especially the salted egg cream crabs. :)

Hi Travel Buddies,

Our stay at Lotus Desaru Beach Resort was an enjoyable one.  We are told that Lotus Desaru is probably the nicest place to stay in Desaru. :)

The resort has a wide range of activities.  Sea sport lovers can go for jet skiing, snorkelling, banana boat ride, kayaking and fishing.  If you do not fancy sea sports, you can do land activities like tennis, table tennis, cycling, paintball, beach volleyball and sing your hearts out in the cosy karaoke private room.

It happened to rain on the following day and we stayed indoors playing pool while the kids engrossed in the arcade games.  When the rain finally stopped, the kids went for the Water Park rides while we went for jet ski (RM 90 for 20 minutes).  We must say that the Water Park is a nice one, we like especially the area at “Beware of the falling Coconut” where the huge coconut will overturn each time when is fully filled up with water and you can enjoy the ‘shiok’ feeling of splashing water above your head when the coconut “falls”. :P

If you have more time, you can also ask the hotel to arrange for side trips and excursions like firefiles cruise, fruit farm tour, ostrich farm tour, crocodile farm tour or even excursion to Kota Tinggi.

We booked one 3 bedroom suite and 2 bedroom suite to accomodate 7 adults and 4 kids at promotional rates of RM 800 and RM 600 excluding tax respectively.  Like to have a peek at the suite we stayed, the facilities and beach at the resort?  Look down….. :)

Desaru Fruit Farm

Posted by: | Comments (1)

Hi Travel Buddies,

We went to Desaru for a short weekend getaway last week.  Our first stop was at the Desaru Fruit Farm.  This fruit farm won the Best Agro Tourism Site in Malaysia in 2006.  The entire fruit farm is about 100 acres of tropical fruit land.  Entrance fees is RM20 per person, you get a guide to bring you around and you can bring back a small box of fruit platter at the end of the tour.

From passion fruits, dragon fruits to durian flowers, banana flowers, we were introduced to a number of interesting sights of many different fruits and fruits flowers.  There is a small fish pond, bee aviary, mini zoo and you can even find crocodile, monkey and ostrich in the farm!  At the end of the tour, we were given some ‘sales talk’ and tasting of their honey products, like royal jelly.  But we were glad that they were not pushy and no hard selling.  Overall, we find the tour is educational and interesting to both adults and kids. :)
